CYCLING CULTURE IN DENMARK
Denmark is a bike!
The statement above is of course a bit exaggerated. However, there are some elements of truth in it. Cycling is very widespread in Denmark especially in the greater cities like
Copenhagen
,
Århus
,
Odense
and
Ålborg
.
To illustrate how widespread cycling is in Denmark here are some
quick facts from Copenhagen
as an example:
- Each day 55 % of all people living in Copenhagen cycle to their place of work or education
- 1.2 million km are cycled each day in Copenhagen by the inhabitants
- The inhabitants in Copenhagen cycle because it is easy, fast and good exercise
Find out more
One of the keys in the success of the Danish bicycling culture is the infrastructure in Denmark. This and many other issues related to cycling you can find information on at
the website of the Danish Cycling Embassy.
Of course a country that claims to be a bike has a cycling embassy!
You can also visit
the website for the Danish exhibition "Dreams on wheels"
, which currently is traveling around the world showing the Danish cycling culture from an urban perspective.
Cycling blogs
Cycling is not only about infrastructure and getting from A to B. Riding your bike through the city is a lifestyle and a modern way of living. As with most modern lifestyles people are expressing themselves about it through blogs on the internet. When it comes to cycling culture, it is definitely worth to take a look at the blogs
Copenhagenize
and
Copenhagencyclechic
